Jour 50 Montezuma Castle

That day instead of staying at the RV Park, we went to Montezuma Castle National Monument. It's a little cliff village that was constructed over a thousand years ago. Tourist used to be able to climb up and see up inside but now we can't anymore. Close by there are the remains of walls of another building. There is not much left. Farther away there is a small river and a rock dam that the inhabitants used to irrigate their crops. On the trail that links the three areas there are interpretive signs that explain plenty of interesting facts about the buildings and the people   who lived there. Even further there is a box with a model of the interior of Montezuma Castle with its inhabitants inside and a recording explaining life inside of it. In the souvenir shop we bought some books and we got our Junior Ranger badges for Montezuma Castle.

On our way back we stopped at Black Canyon Trail for a hike. We used our new book on cacti to identify those prickly plants. A little farther we stopped at a rest area where there was a magnificent view and a solar clock.

  3. Wow these are magical pictures ... it really is a desert with cacti and everything. You will be cactus experts soon. Any lizards? So, you are junior rangers now, well done.
Now that I know how cool your posts are (and how to find them), I'm going to read them all.
    Keep well Dr. T.
Thanks E et al for the postcard!
